ABOUT THE POSITION
The Clark County District Attorney's Office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Victim/Witness Advocate I/II position. This position provides criminal justice system, case status, restitution process and related information to victims and witnesses in a variety of criminal situations; monitors cases through the judicial system; verifies and processes claims for payments and makes travel, lodging and property return arrangements; performs a variety of data entry and office support functions to the program.

Victim/Witness Advocate I: $20.07 - $31.08 Hourly
Victim/Witness Advocate II: $21.69 - $33.58 Hourly

The Victim/Witness Advocate I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Victim/Witness Advocate II.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful selected candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.

Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation, which may include both a pre-and post-offer background check for positions within the District Attorney's Office.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:

Victim/Witness Advocate I - Equivalent to two (2) years of college level course work in criminal justice, sociology, psychology or a field related to the work. Experience in providing legal office or legal secretarial support, which will have provided a basic knowledge of the criminal justice system, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the education.

Victim/Witness Advocate II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience providing direct information and support to victims and witnesses.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

Working Conditions: Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Provides information on the criminal justice system, restitution policies, the court system and case status to victims and witnesses of crime in person or over the telephone. Provides crisis intervention to victims and witnesses of crimes to assist in reducing trauma, and facilitate adjustment; provides advice and referral on a short term and follow-up basis. Assists victims and witnesses in various processes of the criminal justice such as completing forms, ensuring property return and arranging interviews with sheriff and attorney staff. Provides referrals to various support and community organizations and assists victims and witnesses in obtaining counseling, medical and dental care, protective services, psychiatric services, child care, food, shelter, clothing and related services. Assists victims in obtaining compensation and restitution by assessing and eligibility, assisting in completing claim forms. Prepares correspondence, assessment reports, impact statements, case records, program information and related reports; maintains records and documentation of victim/witness cases. Maintains accurate records and files. Attends a variety of hearings and meetings. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Performs various office support and clerical duties such as receiving and screening telephone calls, typing, data entry, processing forms and maintaining case files. Operates standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; may operate a motor vehicle to attend meetings or transport clients.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
