Position Summary

As an academic medical center with a rich history of providing life-saving treatment in Southern Nevada, UMC serves as the anchor hospital of the Las Vegas Medical District, offering Nevada's highest level of care to promote successful medical outcomes for patients.
We are home to Nevada's ONLY Level I Trauma Center, Designated Pediatric Trauma Center, Burn Care Center, and Transplant Center. We are a Pathway Designated facility by ANCC, and we are on our journey to Magnet status.

Position Summary:
Obtains high quality diagnostic recordings of the heart and other physiological parameters to identify and evaluate abnormalities and to assist with quality assurance of the unit. This is a lead class that acts as a location/shift supervisor.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of a basic EKG/rhythm course and two (2) years of experience as an EKG technician.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
None required.

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

  • Previous recent documented experience as an EKG Technician
  • Basic Arrhythmia Course / Certification - Documented
  • Recent documented experience in an Acute Care Setting
  • Recent documented experience in a leadership or project lead assignment.
  • Current employee with UMC EKG department

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Anatomy; heart functions and rhythms; placement of leads for eletrocardiograms; medical terminology; department and hospital safety practices and principles; patient rights, age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and procedures; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:
Performing and interpreting rhythms on electrocardiograms; directing and coordinating the activities of assigned staff; use of dictaphone; editing electrocardiogram readings on computer; use of computer and associated software; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting, including stamina to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, and strength to examine varied patients; vision to use standard equipment and read printed materials including a VDT screen; and hearing and speech to communicate effectively inn person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
