About the Position

The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Office Specialist position. This position a ssigns, directs and reviews the work of Office Specialists and other office support staff; provides difficult, complex, technical or specialized office support to various County or local government offices.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time general clerical, customer service, or office assistant experience. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years.

Working Conditions: Specified positions may require working evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.

Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Note: all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID's upon acceptance of job offer. Examples of acceptable ID's include a Passport, Driver's License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.

Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a ten year employment and five year residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.

Physical Demands

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Examples of Duties

Provides lead direction, training and work review to Office Specialists and other office support staff; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work. Provides input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required. Performs difficult, complex technical and/or specialized office support work, which may require the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills and a knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to the department to which assigned. Uses a computer to develop and manage databases and/or spreadsheet files and to develop special report formats. Researches and assembles information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports; makes arithmetic or statistical calculations. Conducts specific projects related to the department or office to which assigned; may obtain information from other organizations, summarize such information and prepare recommendations. Provides information to the public or to staff that requires the use of judgment and the explanation of policies, rules or procedures. Organizes, maintains and purges various departmental files. Type correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents from drafts, notes, dictated tapes, or brief instructions, using a typewriter, word processor or computer. Proofreads and checks typed and other materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental policies and regulations. Enters and retrieves data and prepares reports using a computer; reviews such reports for accuracy and makes corrections as required; operates standard office equipment. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Oversees and personally performs a variety of office administrative details such as preparing purchase requisitions, arranging for the repair of equipment, transmitting information, and keeping reference materials up to date; may arrange meetings by notifying participants, reserving rooms, making lodging and/or meal arrangements, etc. Acts as receptionist and receives and screens visitors and telephone calls and directs the caller to the proper person or personally handles the call. May be required to attend meetings at other locations and pick up and deliver supplies and materials from one location to another.
