Salary: $14.00 - $18.00 hourly (based on education level)

Hours of Work: Up to 25 hours weekly between M-Sun, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

FILING DEADLINE: Although this position will remain open until filled, review of candidates' materials will begin on March 3, 2020, and best consideration will be given for materials submitted prior to that date.

INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements will be forwarded to the hiring department for further review. The ideal candidate for this position would possess a strong foundation in Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field; demonstrate the ability to follow directions; and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under direct supervision, assists with the care of native mammals, reptiles, and invertebrates in exhibit, quarantine, and holding areas of the Las Vegas Springs Preserve; prepares food and water for animals, as instructed, and according to a fixed schedule; and maintains animal exhibits, quarantine, and holding areas in a clean and aesthetically pleasing manner. In addition, works in the natural areas of the Springs Preserve and assists with the monitoring of introduced wildlife species (native fish, frogs, tortoises) and corresponding habitat, as directed by management. Performs duties to aid in the implementation of seasonal mosquito surveillance protocols. Provides general maintenance to constructed habitats and associated systems. Observes and reports findings to Supervisor.

ELIGIBILITY/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Current enrollment within an undergraduate or graduate program in a Science-related field
Current enrollment with a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester (undergraduate level) or 3 credit hours (graduate level)
Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
Available to work up to 25 hours weekly between M-Sun, 7:00 a.m. - 4 p.m.
A valid Nevada driver's license
Legal right to work in the US, including authorization to work off-campus
