The Position
Family Services Specialists perform a variety of duties to assist families in achieving self-sufficiency. Incumbents determine eligibility for a variety of public assistance and health related programs to include, but not limited to: Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families within the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services and Title IVE, Title XIX, foster care, adoption payments and other State funded programs for children in custody or who have been adopted within the Division of Child and Family Services; provide coordinated employment and training services including assessment, vocational guidance, support services and education to clients; and/or provide child support enforcement services. Positions in this series may specialize in one service area or may work in multiple areas depending upon the needs of the agency.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is recruiting for a vacancy in the Helpdesk located at Central Office in Carson City. This FAME FSSIII position requires working closely with Program Specialist Staff, Programmers, and Field Staff. This position assists all other Help Desk staff in providing program and technical support to over 2000 end users including Child Support Enforcement Program Area Offices, DWSS field staff, statewide District Attorney Offices, and other County, State, and Federal agencies. All Helpdesk Staff assist callers through the process of correcting system issues which may be program, technical, or user related in nature. This involves the review and interpretation of applicable Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), and State policies in order to determine if issues are system or policy related. All Helpdesk Staff are also required to initiate, track, and maintain all applicable documentation for system corrections, changes, and enhancements." A typing certificate issued within the last twelve (12) months verifying your net typing speed of a least 25 wpm in a five-minute test is required. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of professional experience performing social services case processing duties which included application of rules and regulations, conducting personal interviews with applicants for the purpose of exchanging information; documenting facts pertinent to program requirements, researching financial circumstances and determining eligibility; OR one year of experience as a Family Service Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR one year of experience as a Family Services Specialist I in Nevada State service performing the full scope of child support enforcement duties. Special Notes For most positions in this series, applicants must meet the minimum typing speed established by the agency at the time of recruitment. Special Requirements Candidates must submit to background checks and fingerprinting upon appointment. Additional Position Criteria Typing certificate must be attached. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
